Tyler Legacy UIL Debate Tournament & Congress Workshop

Welcome to the Tyler Legacy High School UIL tournament and Congress workshop - we are excited to finally get to share our beautiful campus with the debate community! This is designed with all of our schools needs in mind: time, budget, preparation, and avoiding conflicts. We tried to start late enough for schools to get able to get busses and drivers and ideally get back home in time for after school commitments.

Events offered:

CX and LD (novice and varsity divisions) - using UIL topics

Congress - morning workshop (graciously run by veteran debate coach Melissa Witt) and followed by an afternoon practice, where students will be sorted according to varsity and novice divisions. We will be working with items from the UIL Region 7 docket, though schools from other regions are welcome to come and participate.

Speech: Extemporaneous Speaking (Informative & Persuasive), Poetry & Prose *all speech students will be given three rounds, since practice and feed back are the goal. Placing will be according to the top cumulative scores from each round.

Cross-entries are not permitted except in Poetry and Prose, as turnaround time will be tight.

To accommodate a short lunch, we plan to offer schools the ability to pre-order meals - more information will be provided ASAP.

Judges: we need everyone to make every effort to cover their judging obligations:

CX - one judge for every two entries or portion thereof

LD - one judge for every four entries or portion thereof

Speech - one judge for every six entries or portion thereof
