World Schools Debate

In an attempt to grow World Schools debate in Idaho, Gate City will offer both a Friday division, and a Saturday separate division, of World Schools Debate. Friday will have only an Open Division, while Saturday will have both Open and Novice Divisions. These teams will be composed of three students that must all be from the same high school.

There will be two prepared topics, one of which students will debate twice (once on each side). The rest of the topics will be impromptu and prepared one hour before the round begins. During impromptu prep, students may only access an almanac and a dictionary. NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE ALLOWED IN WORLD SCHOOLS.The only exception is that a phone may be used as a timer only, and must be on airplane mode the entire time.

Prepared TOPICS:

Topic #1 (two debates, students will be on both sides once): This House would eliminate standardized testing in schools.

Topic #2: (one debate, students will only debate one side): This House prefers a direct democracy to a representative democracy.
