To qualify for the Championships, a student must have 2 winning records at league tournaments this year. Only Open League tournaments count for winning records. MSQI, D7, D9, D16, or non NYCUDL tournaments do not count. Please consult the public qualifications spreadsheet. If you have any questions, please let us know.

If a school does not have any qualifiers, they will receive 2 at large entries where they can enter up to two teams in the tournament. The teams entered must meet all league entry requirements (listed below). These entries can be made in any division that the students would normally be allowed to enter.

The Championships will be held on the Classrooms.Cloud system. Prior to the tournament, we will send out a link so that coaches, students, and judges can perform a tech check.

For the Championships, once a school makes an entry, all teams will be placed on a waitlist. In order to be removed from the waitlist, the following criteria must be met.

-Your school must have paid your league dues for the year.

-Any judge fees or fines your school has accumulated must be paid.

-Students must have completed permission slips.

-Your judging obligation just be met.

-You must have an adult that will be present for the day of the tournament.

-Your students must be linked on tabroom.com.

-Your students must have earned the necessary winning records.

A waitlist check will be done daily starting on April 4th. Once a team has met all of the criteria, they will be removed from the waitlist into the active division.

Our judging obligation is one judge for every two teams. In middle school, you may use high school students with debate experience to judge. In high school, only an adult that is no longer in high school may judge. If you need help finding judges, please email olivia@debate.nyc for assistance.

If you have any questions, please let us know.
