Dragons Speech & Debate Tournament

Saturday, March 20th

Welcome to Dragons Speech & Debate Tournament. This tournament is cost-free and exclusive only for Stranahan High School students in any club or organization--such as, but not limited to, Mentoring Tomorrow's Leaders, Student Government, Latinos In Action, and Key Club. The main objective for hosting this tournament is to expose the power of argumentation and promote civic engagement. Our tournament is designed to adjust students' skills and talents in a competitive approach.

Students can register for the following speech and debate events: Congressional Debate, Impromptu Speaking, Big Question Debate, Dramatic Interpretation, and Original Oratory. To learn more about each event in detail, please check the "Events & Divisions" information under "Info" provided by the National Speech & Debate Association or click here. As well, updates and prompts will be posted on each individual event, so please consistently check for any updates. Additionally, all students who compete at the tournament are invited to a free virtual workshop, where experienced non-competitors will directly work with competitors in preparation for the tournament. To begin the registration process, please contact your club or organization sponsor to sign up for the tournament and/or the virtual workshop or complete the form directly by clicking here.

The structure of the tournament will consist of opening remarks, preliminary rounds, final rounds, and closing remarks. The opening remarks will highlight the tournament's schedule and objective, answer any questions, and show special mentions of teachers and judges, and organizers. Preliminary, or prelim, rounds are rounds where competitors face head-on with other competitors of the same event to move to the championship level. Final (championship level) rounds are rounds where victorious competitors of the prelim rounds face head-on with other victorious competitors of the same event to win the championship. Judges will vote three outstanding students from each of the prelims rounds who demonstrated leadership, initiative, and competed respectfully and professionally. We will announce the champions and recognized competitors at closing remarks. The tournament will be hosted on Tabroom.com, an online registration and tabulation website provided to the speech and debate community by the National Speech & Debate Association.
