Opposing Viewpoints 2021 

The Viewpoint Speech & Debate Team would like to invite you to join us on Zoom for our first annual World Schools Debate and Individual Events tournament.  

We will be offering novice and varsity divisions in all events, with middle schoolers welcome in the novice division. IE will have three preliminary rounds and WSD will have six preliminary rounds. 

All IE will be asynchronous. Novice and varsity WSD will run simultaneously. Recordings for IE rounds must be submitted Tuesday, April 6th, by 5pm PST. Independent entries are welcome. 

All competitors are welcome to join us on Thursday, April 8th to listen international debate teacher Miha Andric’s lecture on strategies in WSD. Miha is the director of ZiP and is on the board of directors for IDEA.  

Below is the tentative schedule. Please keep in mind we may have to make adjustments based on time zone logistics.  

Tuesday, April 6th:  

5:00pm: Entries and video links due 

Thursday, April 8th:  

2:00pm: “Strategy In WSD” with Miha Andric  

Friday, April 9th:  

2:00pm- Debate Check in  

3:00pm- Round 1 Prepared 

5:00pm- Round 2 Impromptu

8:30 pm- Round 3 prepared  

Saturday, April 10th:   

8:00am-IE Rounds released

2:00pm- Round 4 Impromptu  

4:00pm-Unstarted IE rounds will be pushed and fees assessed  

5:00pm-IE Finals ballots due 

5:30pm-Round 5 Prepared  

8:00pm-Round 6 Impromptu , All IE rounds due

Sunday, April 11th:  

8:00am- IE finals rounds released

2:00pm- Awards  

3:00pm-Quarters (if needed) Prepared  

4:00pm- Unstarted IE ballots will be pushed and fees assessed

5:00pm-Semis Impromptu (prepared if no quarters)  

8:00pm-Finals Prepared (Impromptu if no quarters), IE ballots due
