Parli Additional Info 9/24/2020

1. At 8 am, judges will go to Judge Lounge and debaters will go to prep room. I *think* coaches will be able to mark entries and judges onsite through Tabroom, in lieu of traditional face-to-face check-in, but we will see. Bottom line is that we plan to start on schedule and you need to tell us of any drop/changes at the earliest possible time, emailing me (Joel).
2. If you haven't checked out the rule changes, you really should. See sidebar.
3. We are adhering to the CHSSA requirement that we use a prep room. I know, I know, it seems odd since there's no button for sotto voce. Debaters may communicate with their partners (or other teammates in the case of novice prep) via phone, Google doc, carrier pigeon, or whatever platform they wish. But they do need to be in the prep room with their cameras on and mics off. And they need to figure out how they will communicate during the round as well.
4. See the schedule; there are some important notes there.
5. This new era relies on trust to enforce the rules even more than the old one did. Please impress upon your students that trophies are just plastic, and their integrity is much more valuable.

6. Debaters should raise their hand on camera to make a POI. If not acknowledged in a reasonable time, they may say "POI" on mic. POOs should be made on mic.

________________________________________________________________________

The first GGSA Congress and Parli tournament of the school year will be held online using Tabroom and Classrooms Cloud, on Saturday, September 26, 2020.

DEADLINES

Entries are due by 5:00 PM on Friday the 18th of September. Please enter all competitors and judges at http://ggsacongress1parli1.tabroom.com

Drops made by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23 will pay half of the entry fee. After that point they will pay the full entry fee.

COMPETITORS

All competitors must have Tabroom accounts that are linked to their email by 5 pm on September 24, 2020.

JUDGES

*All judges must be entered on Tabroom.com by 5 p.m. on September 24, 2020.

*All judges must have Tabroom.com accounts with cell phone numbers and email addresses. Make sure that all judges know the email address and password for their tabroom account. This is sometimes a problem when coaches or students create a tabroom account for a parent judge.

* Judge Instructions: All judging instructions will be posted on the GGSA website and sent to coaches to distribute to their judges.

Please address these issues in advance of the tournament. Dealing with them on Saturday morning delays the start of the tournament, and causes everyone to go home later.

Coaches, please make sure your judges and their technology are ready to judge. In the event of a judge being unable to judge an assigned round, tab staff reserves the right to substitute the coach from the school as the judge for that round, so please make sure that both your judges and you are prepared.

VOLUNTEERS

Per our league rules, each school is responsible for providing one adult volunteer (who may be the coach) in addition to your judge quota. Please email us by 5 p.m. on September 24 with the name, email address, and phone number of your volunteer.
