Athens Tournament

2020 — San Francisco, CA/US

Hi everyone!

We are excited to see you all this Sunday, January 26th for the Athens Debate Tournament! This Athens Debate tournament is for current Athens Debate students. The intention behind the tournament is to give our students a significant practice opportunity for the Spring semester.

Location: The Town School, 2750 Jackson St, San Francisco, CA 94115

Absences: Please let me know by today (immediately) if your child can no longer make the tournament. If you've already told me, you're fine. I'm pre-setting the first couple rounds so that we can start the tournament on time and that requires an up to date participant list.

Events: Lincoln-Douglas Debate; Parliamentary Debate; Elementary Debate. *Note: We removed Impromptu speaking. So all students will only participate in their debate event.

Attire: Competitors should please dress in business attire. If that's not possible, that's okay, but if it's possible please do so.

Awards: Awards will be given to the top 4 finishers in LD and Parliamentary, and the top debater in Elementary. There will be no formal awards ceremony. We decided to build in an extra debate round and demo rounds instead of an awards ceremony, because students learn more from that.

Food: Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Materials: Paper, pens, timer (optional), water bottle (optional).

Arrival Time: 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM. Please do whatever you need to be on time. We are going to start Round 1 on time.

Note for Elementary Students: For our elementary student debaters, everything will make sense at the tournament. We'll walk each elementary student through their first few rounds. This is 100% a learning experience and your judge and Athens Staff will help them along each way. We promise the experience will be very controlled and informative.
