Phoenix Speech Invitational

October 27, 2018 at Phoenix High School

Coaches and Students,

Phoenix High School Speech & Debate invites you to compete in our speech only tournament (except SPAR)!

We will use all online ballots through Tabroom. Please make sure judges have linked Tabroom accounts and bring smart devices.

We will offer a novice and open division in all events except SPAR. Depending on number of students registered, we may collapse Novice & Open divisions.

Pattern A: Novice & Open Impromptu, Open SPAR, Novice & Open Prose, Novice & Open HI, Novice & Open Duo, Novice & Open POI

Pattern B: Novice & Open ADS, Novice & Open Radio, Novice & Open Poetry, Novice & Open DI, Novice & Open Inform, Novice & Open Oratory

Students can double enter in either pattern, except for SPAR.

We are excited to try out SPAR (Spontaneous Argumentation) at our tournament and encourage debaters to join in. It is a 1 vs 1 debate of 13 minutes. The Proposition speaker will receive two resolutions, one serious (eg, Charter schools are good for education in America) and one not serious (eg, Wonder Woman is superior to Spiderman). The Prop speakers selects the resolution. Here is the format:
Prop prep 1 minute
Prop Case 2 minutes
Opp Prep 1 minute
Opp Case 2 minutes
Prop/Opp Crossfire 3 minutes
Prop Rebuttal 2 minutes
Opp Rebuttal 2 minutes

We will follow OSAA guidelines for all events.

Tournament Fees

The entry fee for each school is $25. All events are $8 per entry.

Judge Coverage

Schools should provide at least one judge for every five teams/entries. Please bring judges along! We will provide judges with meals and snacks.
