Abbreviation Camp
Format Speech
Entry Fee $25.00 (Plus $25.00/student)
Entry 1 competitors per entry

Event Description:

A great practice in Original Oratory. Campaign Speaking offers an opportunity to practice their public speaking skills with a civic minded focus. Students should prepare original speeches as if they are running for a office or position. The speech could be for:

A) Presidential Elections

B) School or Student Council Elections

C) Local Government Elections

or any elections for a chair or board position.

Students should start with the body of the speech which features the major arguments and ideas. Students should take their main points with supporting research and decide a theme for their speech. Major points might inform the audience of an issue, challenge assumptions the audience may have, compel the audience to make a personal change, or encourage the audience to visualize what the world might be like.

Some questions to consider: What is important to you as an elected leader? How will you help solve problems of those voting for you? What is your platform or main ideas that you will focus on as a leader? What skills or traits do you have that would make you the ideal choice?

Students are judged on presentation, content and structure. Students may use notecards or printed speeches. This event is open to elementary school students.
