Event Description:

An event in which the student delivers a monologue either humorous or serious in nature, from text or memory. The source material should be from a published play, novel or short story. The student should effectively convey the arc of a story through the portrayal of one character. The goal is to transport the audience to another place by presenting a character who goes through some sort of journey that is either dramatic or humorous. Students should strive to bring the material to life in a natural and realistic way using voice, facial expressions, body and gestures. The presentation must include an introduction which states the title and author.**The student MAY use a script at this tournament.

 Time limit: 7 minutes with a 30 second grace period. Students who speak beyond the time limit plus the grace period may not be ranked 1st. Judges should offer to provide visual time signals.
