I hope that you have had a wonderful start to the school year. I know that I have been throughly enjoying my new home at Cary Academy and perhaps, I am only more thrilled by the fact that I will be returning to Yale this year with my new squad.
As our legislation deadline ofis fast approaching, please note that on the Yale tournament website you will find a link to our legislation templates. These templates were rolled out last year without a glitch, so we will be using them again. Please remember a couple of things while you are preparing your legislation:
- Please download the proper template. Bills should be written for issues for which Congress actually has authority. Resolutions should be written for pieces of legislation where Congress does not have direct authority, but believes something should be done. Constitutional amendments should be written in the event that a legislator wants to fundamentally alter part of the current system.
- Legislation MUST be typed directly into the template you download. Please do not try to recreate the template. The only thing that may be altered is the size of the font. Font size may not be smaller than 10 points.
- Legislation MUST be only one page long.
- Legislation MUST be assigned to an author and not to a school. All legislation MUST be saved as Last Name_First Name_School_.docx

- Late and improperly formatted legislation will not be accepted. Please pay close attention to any and all deadlines posted on Yale tournament website.
While these rules may seem fussy, the reality is that our students work hard and they deserve to have the opportunity to debate quality legislation. Legislation that lacks clarity, has typos, and/or is missing an important section/article results in confusion prepping. Additionally, the use of the templates, helps tab staff expedite the release of the legislation packet. This allows students more time to prepare and we all know that this early in the season, they need a lot time to prepare.
