Dear Coaches and Judges of PFD,

I am happy to let you know that based upon concerns that were expressed to us after the original email went out this morning, we have decided to offer 6 strikes per team rather than the 3 that were announced in the 2020 invitation. We hope that this will alleviate the situation, which we took seriously. We also implore all of you to give us any feedback for next year when we send the annual survey after the tournament, because that helps us when we design the next year.

In addition, let me clarify that a conflict is something you will note to us to indicate any student that you are not comfortable judging. We understand that many of you know a very large number of debaters, and they may have attended a camp you direct or where you are a lab leader. In addition, there may be students you know from your region whom you are entirely comfortable judging. A conflict is something YOU declare and we respect your judgement. The main thing we are trying to avoid is releasing a schematic and then learning from you that you are conflicted but did not tell us ahead of time. So help us stay on schedule by letting us know of any conflicts.

We are looking forward to working with you to make this a wonderful tournament.

Best wishes,

Tim Averill, for the PFD Tabulation Room
