Good evening, coaches!

I'll be tabbing Public Forum this weekend at the Peach State Classic.  My goal is to be able to open up some form of prefs/strikes tomorrow for the Varsity Public Forum division. However, in order to do that, I need a little assistance from you.

1) If you have any judges covering a NOVICE Public Forum division who would be good judges in the Varsity division as well (e.g., head coaches, former debaters, etc.), please email me at and let me know who those judges are. Many coaches did not enter judge notes to indicate if novice judges were current high school students, and I want to make sure that if I need to pull a judge up to varsity, I don't accidentally pick a student!

2) Please ensure that all your judges have paradigms posted on We will have teams and judges representing several different states this weekend, and paradigms are important tools to help students learn to adapt to regional differences and individual preferences. If your judges are unsure of where to enter their paradigm, they simply need to click on their email address at the top of the Tabroom website to access their home dashboard, and then choose "paradigm" under the Judging heading on the right. That will open a text editor where they can enter their paradigms.

Paradigms do not have to be extraordinarily lengthy, but should provide enough information to help students get an idea of how to adapt in round. I would suggest including experience in debate (e.g., coach, former debater--what events---, new community judge, etc), how many years involved in the activity, preferences about speed, etc.

We ask that ALL judges in Varsity Public Forum - as well as Novice PF judges who are eligible to judge Varsity - post a paradigm so that students and coaches can make informed decisions about prefs/strikes. (I would encourage all NPF judges to post a paradigm even if they're not eligible to judge Varsity rounds - novice debaters need to learn judge adaptation, too!)

Please ensure that your judges post paradigms by 1 PM Eastern Time tomorrow so that I can open strikes/prefs. Any schools that have judges with missing paradigms at that time will NOT receive prefs/strikes.

Feel free to email if you have any questions!

Thank you,

Lyndsey Oliver
