As a judge with ample experience in LD and Parliamentary, my debate knowledge is primarily drawn from these two events. I also performed extemporaneous speaking and impromptu speaking as speech events. My academic and work background is in Anthropology, Technology, and Spanish.
Paradigms: Given my experience, I have some of the following paradigms:
1) One of the first things I will focus on is evidence, solid logical reasoning, and how the case relates back to the weighing mechanism. Please keep in mind that if it is a policy-based debate, I expect the debate to contain some sort of plan and relation to policy. If it is a value-based debate, I do not expect a policy to be given. I heavily discourage Ks. I will flow debates, but I'm not the quickest at flowing in the world. If you spread, beware of this.
2) The second thing I will be judging on will be respect and empathy. While this is a competitive debate, I expect that competitors will treat one another with respect, as well as the subject. Remember your humanity when you debate.
3) Questions and Answers. During CX or Questions in debate, I will judge on the questions and answers provided.
Overall, be kind to one another, remember your humanity, and have fun!
