Novice Speech Rules

Students will participate in 4 different events at the Novice Speech Tournament. 2 events are prepared. 2 events are limited prep.

Round I Prepared Retold Story (2-4  minutes no notes) may start prepping at any time.

Round II Impromptu (up to 7 minutes with notes) Topics will be abstract nouns (love, hate, friendship, etc). 3 topics will be given. Students will choose one and time will start. They may NOT use phones, but may write down their thoughts and use their notes in their speech. Students may choose to divide up the 7 minutes however they like. It is recommended that they use no more than 3 minutes of preparation time. 

Round III Soap Box (2-4 minutes with notes) prepared as a short persuasive.

Round IV Grab Bag Sales (up to 7 minutes) no notes. Like impromptu but with an item for sale. Students will draw out an item and the time will start. They may NOT use phones, but may write down their thoughts and use their notes in their speech. Students may choose to divide up the 7 minutes however they like. It is recommended that they use no more than 3 minutes of preparation time.
