Silver Lake Tournament Guidelines, Rules and Regulations

1. Registration will be from 7:20 - 8:009 AM in the High School Commons.

2. IDA and Extemp draw will begin at 8:00 AM for Round 1.

3. All Saturday speech/interp events will consist of three preliminary rounds and finals.

4. Students may only triple enter in impromptu and must enter different events except for two preparation events (i.e. Extemp and IDA). No student may enter the same event twice. No student may perform the same selection in two events (i.e. Prose and DI, or Duo and Duet).

5. The top 2 entries in an event will count towards Sweepstakes.

6. Extemp topics will be taken from recent magazine and newspaper articles starting in early December, but will not be limited to the Big 3.

7. Listings on the tournament schedule do not indicate speaking order, except in Extemp and IDA. However, contestants must finish preparations for each round within the prescribed time limits, or be disqualified for that round.

8. Finalists will be the top six ranked contestants in each event. All finalists will receive medals. Finals will be "cutthroat."

9. Sweepstakes points for all Saturday events in preliminary rounds will be determined by the following point system:

     5 points for a rank of 1

     4 points for a rank of 2

     3 points for a rank of 3

     2 points for a rank of 4

     1 point for all other ranks

10. Sweepstakes will be awarded to the top three schools.

11. Time limits will be as follows:

     -- Under 7 minutes for Informative, Prose, Poetry

     -- 4-7 minutes for Extemp and IDA

     -- Under 10 minutes for Duet, Duo, Dramatic, Humorous, and Oratory
