Debate Event Information

We will offer Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum Debate. Varsity and novice divisions will both be offered, provided there are sufficient entries in each. If a division has less than an adequate number of entries, that debate will be collapsed into only one division, and a breakout final of varsity and novice will occur.

Note that to be considered “novice” at this tournament, a student must be in his/her first season/school year in any high school debate event. In PFD, both debaters must be considered novice in order to enter the novice division. A student who competed in one debate event last year but is now competing in another is not considered a novice debater.

Current NSDA rules and topics will be used. Debate students may not enter any other event.

LD TOPIC

Resolved: Plea bargaining ought to be abolished in the United States criminal justice system.

PFD TOPIC 

Resolved: Spain should grant Catalonia its independence.
