Region V Tournament

IMPORTANT:  IN ORDER TO GIVE OUR STUDENTS PRACTICE FOR NAT QUALS AND STATE, MARCH DEBATE TOPICS WILL BE USED AT REGION!!!!  Please acknowledge that you are aware of this.  Topics will be available February 1.

Date:  February 24, 2018  

Location:  Woods Cross HS

Team composition:  4 teams each in LD, PF, and Policy &  3 competitors each in NX, FX, IMP, Oratory, and Congress.

Judge requirements:  1 per 4 PF & LD debate entries or portion thereof; 1 per 5 IE entries or portion thereof: 1 per 2 CX debate entries or portions thereof; and 1 congress judge for the panel, if you want representation in the congress judging.  (The region will reimburse the school for judges.  (Judges are committed all rounds (3) = $50)

Debate pairing:    Each school must meet each school. 

Individual Event Pairing:  Random by round

Registration:  Will be on tabroom.com by February 1

Pairing meeting:  7:30 AM on Saturday morning during registration, and make sure everyone is good with the debate pairings.  Since we will only have 4 schools participating, the pairings are not difficult. 

Topics:  Extemp topics will come from the NFHS;  Impromptu will be standard—single word abstracts, quotations, and social value questions by round.    The Policy topic is Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.  The LD topic is: Resolved: The United States ought to provide a universal basic income.  The PF topic is Resolved: On balance, the current Authorization for Use of Military Force gives too much power to the president. The Congress docket will be selected from the UDCA pool.  It is posted on Tabroom.
