On behalf of the New York City Urban Debate League and the Institute of Collaborative Education, you are cordially invited to the NYCUDL High School City Championship Tournament on March 18th and March 19th for two days of exciting, fun and intense debate.

 

We will offer two debate formats: Public Forum Debate and Policy Debate.  

 

Judges’ training will be available for individuals interested in judging Public Forum and Policy Debate.

Registration

 

Registration will take place on Tabroom.

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

·      All participants are required to have competed in two (2) UDL sponsored tournaments during the 2016-2017 debate season to be eligible for competition (NOTE: If a team has competed in one (1) tournaments, the City Championship may count as the second tournament).

·      Students must have submitted their NYCUDL consent form.

·      All students competing in the City Championship MUST be representing their ENROLLED HIGH SCHOOL located in one of the five boroughs of New York City (Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn or Staten Island). NO INDEPENDENT ENTRIES ARE ALLOWED.

·      All teams/schools are REQUIRED to attend both days of the tournament until the end of the preliminary debates or when the team is eliminated from the tournament. Teams/schools are not allowed to attend only 1 day of the tournament (e.g. attend Saturday but not Sunday or vice-versa).

·      Each school may send up to two (2) teams per division in Public Forum and Policy Debate

 

THE TOURNAMENT HAS THE RIGHT TO REJECT TEAMS/SCHOOLS FROM COMPETING IF THEY DO NOT MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS.

 

There will be TWO divisions (open and novice) offered at the City Championship tournament for Public Forum and Policy Debate.

 

There will be a beginner’s division breakout round for beginner debaters that do qualify for elimination rounds in Novice PF.

 

 

A student MUST compete in the open division for Public Forum or Policy Debate if:

1.     The student has competed in a previous season of debate (in or outside of the NYC Urban Debate League).

2.     If the student wishes to compete in open.

 

A student MUST enter in the novice division for Public Forum or Policy Debate if:

1.     All members on the team are first year debaters.

2.     A student competed in one (1) tournament in a previous season.

 

ONLINE REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR ALL ENTRIES IS 5PM ON MARCH 15TH, 2017

 

If a school registered for the tournament and does not provide teams with their registration, the registration will be considered incomplete and will not be accepted, therefore the school will be ineligible for competition. This rule applies to the judge requirement as well (see judging section)
