Dear Colleagues,

The Viewmont High School Debate Team cordially invites you to attend “The Clash,” Saturday, November 19, 2016.  The tournament will run from 8am to approximately 5pm.   We will have 4 rounds of competition, so we will begin promptly at 8am.  Please notice the tournament schedule; it is a one day only tournament.  Read the invitation carefully and consider attending. 

Entry Fees and Division

The cost for the tournament is $15 per school and $3.50 per student entry and / or $7.00 per team.  “The Clash” will be offer novice and varsity LD, PF, and Oratory.   Everything else is open division.  (Novice is defined as students in their 1^st semester of debate.)   Entries must be entered into Tabroom by Tuesday, November 15^th @ 5pm.  Drops after that date will incur a $25 drop fee.   Those coaches requesting additional teams will need to contact me no later than Tuesday, November 15^th @ 3 pm.  Students may NOT double enter if they are running debate events, congress or extemp.  Double entries will be allowed in speech events only.  There will be a limit of two events per student.  Students double enter at their own risk.  The tournament will not be held up to accommodate double entries. 

Topics

LD will run the November / December topic.

Public Forum will run the November topic.

Parli Topics will be announced at the tournament.   

Topic areas for Impromptu are as follows:  concrete objects, abstract concepts, quotes, visual (in that order)

Awards

The top six of each category will be announced at the awards ceremony, with the top three receiving trophies.  Event champions will also receive Viking helmets to mark their victory at the tournament!!  We will award the Viking Cup (and Viking helmet) to the coach of the sweepstakes winning team. 

Judges

Varsity students are not allowed to judge novice students.  Please bring judges that have graduated.   

Concessions

“The Clash” will offer concession choices for students and one heck of a spread for coaches (Chile Verde) and judges (soup buffet and rolls).
