Capitol Beltway Fall Classic

2016 — National Harbor, Maryland, MD/US

Dear Colleagues,

Capitol Debate cordially invites you to the 10th Annual Capitol Beltway Fall Classic. This year’s tournament will be held October 22-23, 2016 at National Harbor, MD directly outside of Washington, DC. We will offer varsity competition in Policy debate, Lincoln Douglas debate, and Public Forum debate.  While Walt Whitman has played host for the tournament with Capitol Debate for the last 3 years, time and resource commitment prevents them from hosting.

We are pleased to announce that the tournament has been designated by the TOC as a Finals bid qualifier in both Policy debate and Public Forum debate and a Semis bid in Lincoln-Douglas.

As this is our 10th Anniversary, we want to make it special!!  Thus, Capitol Debate will host the 10th Anniversary tournament at The National Harbor outside of Washington, DC.  Check it out at https://nationalharbor.com. The National Harbor is home to more than 150 diverse shops and boutiques and over 30 dining locations.  The tournament hotel will be the Gaylord Resort Hotel and Convention Center, which a World Class four diamond resort located on the banks of the Potomac River near Washington, DC. While the rate for the hotel for the public for that weekend is set at $332 per night plus $18 resort, we have successfully negotiated a rate of $129 per night inclusive of the resort fee.

A dedicated website is now available to book their hotel rooms online. Reservations can be made at this web address:

https://resweb.passkey.com/Resweb.do?mode=welcome_ei_new&eventID=16143850

We are very excited that ALL debates will be held in the tournament hotel at the Gaylord Resort Hotel and Conference Center.  So please make your life easy and book a room at that hotel and enjoy everything that National Harbor has to offer!

We will be 6 preliminary debates in all divisions and then a requisite amount of elimination debates based on the number of participating teams in each division. Policy and LD debate will offer mutually preferential judging and the tournament will invest in hiring an exceptional judge pool. Students will debate the September/October topic in both LD and PF.
