Borah Novice

2020 — NSDA Campus, ID/US

Dear Coaches:

You and your debate teams are cordially invited to attend the Borah Novice Debate Tournament, Saturday, October 31, 2020.  This year we will be ALL DIGITAL using the NSDA Campus platform

EVENTS:
Policy, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum, and Congress.

TOPICS:
Policy teams will debate the current resolution and must adhere to the novice case list.

Lincoln-Douglas will debate the November-December Topic:

Resolved: (Announced Oct. 1)

Public Forum will debate the November Topic
Resolved: (Announced Oct. 1)

CONGRESS:
The Congress Docket will be comprised of the District 3 fall legislation packet.

ELIGIBILITY:
Only novice debaters are eligible to compete.  A novice debater is one who had not debated in any tournament or attended a debate camp prior to Oct.31 .

FEES:

This year (2020) Borah Novice is operating as true non-profit tournament. We will be using the NSDA Campus platform which charges per room per day.  Since I am terrible at math I will be dividing the total bill equally among all competitors registered when the NSDA generates the invoice.  After the tournament you will receive an invoice for your schools share.  However, since we cannot adjust fees for drops schools will have to pay for any competitors who drop after the drop deadline.

JUDGES:
Varsity Debate Students should be used as judges.  This is an excellent opportunity, especially this year, for Varsity debaters to see the debate from the other side of the table.
As Borah Novice will be held on Halloween- Judges are encouraged to wear costumes to judge.  Recognition will be given to the best costume worn by a judge. (Competitors should not wear costumes)

IMPORTANT!
ALL COMPETITORS AND JUDGES MUST BE REGISTERED ON TABROOM.

POSTINGS:
Postings will be distributed through Tabroom.   LD and PF rounds will be double-flighted.  The tournament schedule is an estimation- rounds may begin before their scheduled time if we end up ahead of schedule.

PAIRINGS:
Rounds one and two are random-matched.  Rounds three and four will be “power-matched” to the extent possible.
AWARDS:  Teams and LD debaters with 4-0 records and the top 6 competitors in Student Congress will receive recognition awards.

Please E-mail me with any questions, comments or corrections.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing you all.
