Back to School Debate Challenge

2020 — Washington DC, DC/US

Welcome to the first Back to School Debate Challenge from August 22-23, 2020. We are so excited to have you! The tournament will be run from this Tabroom website but communication and competition will primarily be through discord (subject to change).

This will be great practice for the University of Kentucky Season Opener~

This tournament is aimed towards increasing accessibility within the debate space and raising money for the DC Urban Debate League. Middle and High Schoolers are allowed, but any non-resolutional argument made in round will merit an L20 for the Team which introduced them. We understand that progressive argumentation has a role in the Debate Space but we don't believe those arguments should be read on new debaters. If both teams consent to Progressive argumentation in Prelims only we will allow it. Content warning violations are an exception to the 'no prog' rule. Out-rounds will be viewed by new debaters and will be used as a teaching tool for new debaters, so please respect our stance on not allowing Progressive argumentation in outs!

We hope to see you there! Shoot us message in the discord with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. Or if you would prefer, email the contacts listed on this Tournament's dashboard.

Cost: [Free for Urban Debate League Students! Contact us for a Fee Waiver!] $8 Entry Fee that can be paid via donating to the DCUDL GoFundMe Page @ https://www.gofundme.com/f/donatetodebate

Location: Back to School Debate Challenge Server @ https://discord.gg/hFfUUMA

Judging: All Current High School Students and above can feel free to judge! All judges must fit certain criteria  a) have more than one year of debate experience (not limited to PF) b) have a certain level of maturity to ensure that the Tournament's mission in making debate more accessible is upheld. Any Judge found to be in violation of these regulations will be dropped from the Judge Pool

Topic: NSDA September-October Topic; Resolved: The United States Federal Government should enact the Medicare for All Act of 2019.
