Spring Coaches Meeting

Schedule: 

8:30: Registration and caucusing 

9:00—11:00: Prelim Round One/Coaches Meeting

11:00—12:00: Lunch 

12:00—2:00: Prelim Round Two

2:30—5:30: Finals

6:00: Awards



Judges:

Registration:

Deadline: Wednesday, January 29th, at 3:00 pm.

Maximum entries: Six students per school in varsity (open); and four students per school in novice.
Novice is defined as a student never having competed in speech, debate, or congressional debate before the current year.

If you have chamber preferences for your students please email them to jsamora@spxabq.org .  Please give preferences for 2, 3, or 4 chambers.

Registration must include the NMAA eligibility form.

Name changes will be accepted through February 6th. 

Note: if either of these divisions has fewer than 15 participants, or if either of these divisions has representation from fewer than three schools, the divisions will collapse into a single division.

Fees: 

$50 annual dues to NMSDA must be paid by this time. Invoice found in email.

$8.00 entry fee per student.

If a student drops from the tournament, they will be charged $8.00.

Dues and fees may be paid at registration, or may be sent ahead of time to Margo.

Legislation:

Deadline to submit: Thursday, January 23rd at 3:00 pm.

Docket will be emailed to schools by Friday, January 24th.

Maximum submission: Two pieces of legislation per school. Frivolous or poorly formatted legislation will be refused.

Food: 

There will be a hospitality room for coaches & judges.

NMSDA will be catering the food for judges and coaches. 





Spring Coaches Meeting:

Provide these award nominations to Jose by February 5th. There is no official nomination form. Nominations have tended to take the form of a short statement or short essay about the coach/student, usually a page or less.

James Akin Award

In memorial of James Akin, an award in his name will be given out to one 12th grade student demonstrating excellence in forensics. 

Speech Coach of the Year, Debate Coach of the Year: 

Each NMSDA member school shall be allowed to nominate one member coach for Coach of the Year in both Speech and Debate. The criteria for nominating a coach: the coach must be a coach at a New Mexico school, this person should be an exemplary coach. An assistant coach may be nominated.
An exemplary coach exhibits these qualities:

  • Dedication to speech & debate

  • Helpfulness to other coaches and students

  • Involvement in Speech & Debate Activities

  • Sportsmanship

  • Have a successful speech & debate program
