SPEECH QUALIFYING RULES:

TOURNAMENT FORMAT/ENTRY LIMITS:  Each school is permitted 22 total entries at the State Quals IE tournament with no more than 5 per event. Wild cards (top 7 at a 2019-20 CFL non-novice tournament) do not count against the school's 22 entries limit.

DOUBLE ENTRY AND DOUBLE QUALIFYING:

Students may double enter in any two events except the two extemp events.  Students may not attend State in 2 Speech events, however, so a choice must be made should they qualify in two events.  Students may not attend State in Parli debate and any extemp, so if a student decides to compete at State Quals IE, after qualifying in parli, they are agreeing to give up their parli spot should one of the debaters qualify in extemp.

SCRIPTS* - Scripts musts be turned in prior to the tournament in order to compete. Our VP of Scripts, Hoon Ko, has sent out a detailed e-mail about script requirements and due dates. If you have missed those e-mails from Hoon, we've compiled them on this Google Doc and will update them as Hoon updates the league. Please stay on top of this process.

Please provide 1 judge for every 2 entries.   This will be a large tournament, so please enter your students and judges as soon as possible, and no later than Monday, February 24th at 5:00pm for student entries and Thursday, February 27th at 5:00pm for judges!

AM Judge Shift 7:30am - 12:30pm
PM Judge Shift 12:30pm - 7:00pm
*Please be patient, this tournament requires extra time to make it as fair as possible for all students. Thank you for your support, and for being appreciative of everyone working hard to do everything correctly (which may not mean as fast as usual).

Reminder: We are using online balloting for speech - ALL judges must have a linked Tabroom account in order to judge and must bring some sort of electronic device(laptop, tablet) to fill out their ballots. Given the importance of this tournament, please double check that your judges to bring either a laptop or tablet - having a judge fill out their ballots on their phones increases the possibility of errors.

Coaches / Tournament Staff

Please make sure that your school's legal representative/chaperone for the day understands that s/he will be needed to work on the tournament staff for the entire tournament (either tab room or judge-call room). Schools with exceptionally large entries are humbly asked to bring more than one representative. Conversely, smaller schools that normally share a chaperone are humbly asked to bring a representative for each school if at all possible. We realistically need close to twenty coaches to staff a tournament of this size; thank you in advance for your assistance.

YOU SHOULD BE PREPARED TO SHOW YOUR PERMISSION SLIPS/MEDICAL RELEASE FORMS TO THE TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR.
