American Debate League Spring Classic

On behalf of the American Debate League and in partnership with Queens College, you are cordially invited to the 2019 Spring Classic sponsored by New York State Assembly member Brian Barnwell held on Saturday, April 13th at Queens College.

(THIS TOURNAMENT WILL DEBATE THE MARCH PF NOT THE APRIL ONE P.F.) Resolved: The United States should promote the development of market rate housing in urban neighborhoods.

We will offer three divisions of Public Forum debate formats ‒ (Novice, J.V., and Varsity)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Team Limits: There is no school limit, but there will be a tournament maximum, so please register early.

Registration: Registration will take place on Tabroom. We are listed as the American Debate League Spring Classic. Deadlines: The registration deadline is 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. (THIS TOURNAMENT WILL DEBATE THE MARCH PF NOT THE APRIL ONE P.F.) Resolved: The United States should promote the development of market rate housing in urban neighborhoods. Judges: Every school must bring one judge for every three teams competing in public forum. All judges are obligated through quarterfinals, then one round past their affiliated school’s elimination. No-show judges risk having their teams eliminated from the tournament. Deadlines: The registration deadline is 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.

Speaker Points and Awards: Speaker points will be assigned on a scale of 25-30. Mavericks will receive averaged points. We will provide awards for top speakers, top teams and sweepstakes points for top schools.

Rules: We will be using NSDA rules for evidence. These rules can be found on their website.

Check-in / Day of tournament registration: Saturday, April 13, @ 8:30 a.m. Registration closes at 9:00 a.m. WE MUST ENFORCE THIS RULE IN ORDER TO HAVE A TIMELY, EFFICIENT, AND WELL-MANAGED TOURNAMENT.

Tournament Schedule:

Registration from 8:00-9:00 a.m. - Registration closes at 9:00 a.m

(Please report to the Rosenthal Room, Rm 230 for registration and the opening ceremony)

Round 1 - 10:00 a.m. (Rounds will be in different buildings on Campus)

Round 2 - 11:30 a.m. (Rounds will be in different buildings on Campus) (Lunch when not debating)

Round 3 - 1:00 P.M. (Rounds will be in different buildings on Campus)

Awards Ceremony @ 3:30 P.M.

(Please report to the Rosenthal Room, Rm 230 for awards and closing ceremony)

The debates will be single flighted.
