Welcome to the 2019 Iowa Forensic League State Tournament!

DATES AND DEADLINES

The 2019 IFL State Tournament will be held from Thursday, March 7 - Saturday, March 9 on the campus of the University of Iowa. Speech events will begin on Thursday afternoon and conclude on Friday morning, and debate events will begin on Friday afternoon and conclude Saturday evening. 

Registration will open on Thursday, February 7 at noon. New entries are due by Thursday, February 28, by 10:00 pm. Fees are “frozen” on Monday, March 4 at noon. You will still be expected to pay for any contestants who drop from your contingent after that time. You may continue to make drops and changes until noon on March 6. Any changes that occur after that time should be emailed to Dave McGinnis at mcgin029@gmail.com

ENTRY FEES

Congress: $20 per entry

LD Debate: $30 per entry

Policy Debate: $45 per pair

Public Forum: $45 per pair

Duo Interp: $36 per entry

Individual Speech Events: $18 per entry

JUDGING OBLIGATIONS

In PF and LD, each school owes one judge per three students (LD) or teams (PF), or fraction thereof. 

In policy debate, each school owes one judge per two teams, or fraction thereof.

In speech, each school owes one judge per six speech entries, or fraction thereof.

In congress, each school owes one judge per five congresspersons, or fraction thereof.

Because of the size of our tournament, we cannot allow “partial” judge commitments. If your judge needs one or more rounds off, talk to the tab staff of that event and they will help if the schedule permits. 

HIRED JUDGING
A limited number of hired judges are available in each division. Hiring is done per entry, so for every entry (policy or PF team, speaker, LDer, or congress student) that is covered by a hired judge, you will have to pay:

Policy - $85

PF - $85

LD - $85

Speech - $35

Congress - $35

Hired judging is not guaranteed. You must request it online, and we will honor those requests on a first-come, first-served basis until we run out of hired judge units. Hired judge requests are due by Thursday, February 21.
