Dear Coaches and associates:

     Braxton County High School is excited to again host our annual Speech & Debate Tournament on Saturday, January 26.  Please register using Tabroom.com.  We hope you can attend!

Where: Braxton County High School, 200 Jerry Burton Dr, Sutton, WV 26601

Time: Registration begins at 7:45 AM with the first round beginning at 8:50 AM.  Detailed schedule is available by clicking on the Tournament Invitation link.

Entry Fees: $7.00 per individual event and $14.00 per team event (Duo Interp, Public Forum)

Drops: On the morning of the tournament, any drops must be phoned in (Sharon Desper, 304-517-8801) by 7:00 AM.  Any team who drops a contestant after 7:00 AM will be charged $50.00 (Rule of 6/19/ 2010)

Lunch: Concessions will be available in the cafeteria, including pizza, snacks, and drinks.

Students may enter up to two events per section:           

A Events: Impromptu, Prose, Informative Speaking, Dramatic/Humorous Interp, Broadcasting, Programmed Oral Interp, Public Forum Debate

B Events: Extemporaneous, Poetry, Declamation, Original Oratory, Duo Interp, Lincoln-Douglas Debate*

*Debate contestants may enter one speech event within the same section of their Debate Event(s) with the exception of Broadcasting in Section A and Extemp in Section B due to the prep time requirements for those two events

Public Forum Debate Topic:  Resolved: The United States federal government should impose price controls on the pharmaceutical industry.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate Topic:  Resolved: In a democracy, the public’s right to know ought to be valued above the right to privacy of candidates for public office.
