2019 New York City Urban Debate League Middle School State Championship

Welcome

On behalf of the New York City Urban Debate League and PS/MS 15 Institute for Environmental Learning, you are cordially invited to the 2018-2019 New York City Urban Debate League Middle School State Championship on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7.

We will offer three formats: parliamentary, public forum and congressional. Questions and concerns should be directed to Taylor Wofford at taylor@debate.nyc. We look forward to seeing you all.

Deadlines 

To register: April 1, 2019 @ 5:00 p.m.

To make drops or changes: April 3, 2019 @ 5:00 p.m.

Day-of check-in: April 6, 2019 @ 9:00 a.m.

Fees

School fee: $50*

Per-team fee: $40* (Parli/PF), $25* (Congress)

Judge hire fee: $150

*Schools designated Title I by the New York City Department of Education may apply for fee waivers. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 22, 2019.

Location

PS/MS 15 is located at 2195 Andrews Ave N, The Bronx, NY 10453. There is not parking. The nearest trains are the 4 to 183 St. Station and the B or D to Tremont Av. Buses are also available: the Bx3 to University Av./West 183rd St. and the Bx12/Bx12-SBS to W. Fordham Rd./Cedar Av.

Schedule (tentative)

Saturday, April 6

Judge training: 8:30 a.m.

Registration closes: 9:00 a.m.

Round 1: 9:30 a.m.

Round 2: 12:00 p.m.

Round 3: 2:30 p.m.

Sunday, April 7

Round 4: 9:00 a.m.

Speaker awards: 11:30 a.m.

Elim 1*: 12:00 p.m.

Elim 2*: 1:30 p.m.

Elim 3*: 3:00 p.m.

*We will try to break all teams with winning records, but, depending on the size of each division, that may not be possible. Our primary goal is to finish the tournament on time.

Food 

Breakfast will be served starting at approximately 7:30 a.m on both days. Lunch will be served starting at approximately 11:30 a.m. both days. We encourage you to grab food during your off-flight. If you have dietary restrictions, please make a note of them in your registration.
