Hello, I have been involved with speech and debate for about 10 years and think that it is a wonderful activity, my judging approach is as follows:

Short Version:

Pretty lay judge so articulate everything well, explain your ideas and why I should vote on them thoroughly, steer clear of theory, stay at a rather slow and conversational speaking speed (no spreading), and be kind to each other.

Long Version:

Plans: Make them clear, concise, easy to follow, and supported by literature.

CP's: Explain to me why it is mutually exclusive and why it is desirable. I expect to hear "permutation" and an explanation of why it can be perm'd.

DA's: I like a good disadvantage but please make sure it links well, I will not vote on a disadvantage that doesn't make sense.

Theory: Theory is my least favorite part of debate so I have a very low threshold for what must be done to answer it. If there has been actual abuse then articulate what happened and why it is bad and thoroughly explain why I should vote on it.

Kritiks: Explain them throughly, I want to see a thorough depth of knowledge from you. Do not expect me to have read the literature you are reading or referencing so go in depth on what your philosopher(s) say(s).

Speed: While I do understand the point of spreading I would appreciate it if you did not, as I feel substantive debates can occur at conversational rates. If you do spread I will not be able to understand you and you will not win. (I will not yell clear so please just stay conversational with your speed)

Cross-X: I don't flow cross-x but I will listen however if something is conceded or something important is said don't expect me to remember it, bring it up and emphasize it in your speech.

Speaker Points: I will be fair with speaker points and will probably fall within the range of 27-29 unless you are especially impress/disappoint me.

Most importantly have fun!
